The text to speech is truly amazing (I had it read Finnegan's Wake!!) I have a Samsung tablet and an iPhone and I never leave home for trips without my Samsung because the iPhone has nothing available like it. If you are able to adapt to an AI voice, I would highly recommend the e-reader Prestigio for Android. Libravox is great, and there's never a wait, but you sometimes run into readers that don't necessarily work well for the book, and audio (sound level) issues. Hoopla, and the various other library systems are good, but as people have pointed out, there often is a long wait, and your library has to purchase the book (I often find the specific book I want isn't owned by my -Philly- library).

But even without that, a single credit a month is about $15 which is cheaper than purchasing books at retail or on iTunes. If you listen to a lot, they start offering you three packs of credits that drop the price down to about $11 per book. If you want specific books at a specific time, audible is the best option I have found.
